How it works

Calculate your material requirement

Estimate countertop and backsplash square footage from section length, depth, quantity, and a material allowance.

The formula

Countertop area = length in feet × depth in feet × quantity. Backsplash area is added, then the selected fabrication allowance is applied.

Worked example

A 10 ft run at 25.5 in deep plus a 10 ft × 4 in backsplash contains about 24.6 ft² before adding fabrication allowance.

Before you order

  • Fabricators price slabs, seams, edges, sink cutouts, and installation differently.
  • Record each section separately when lengths or depths differ.
  • Standard slab yield varies with slab dimensions, defects, pattern direction, and layout.

Common questions

Countertop Square Footage Calculator FAQ

How do I measure an L-shaped countertop?

Measure each rectangular leg as a separate section and add the areas. Avoid double-counting the inside corner.

Does the slab estimate guarantee the number of slabs?

No. It is only a 50 ft² equivalent. A fabricator must lay out pieces on actual slab dimensions.

Are cutouts subtracted?

Sink and cooktop cutouts are usually not subtracted for material purchasing because the surrounding slab is still required.
